Flourishing during uncertainty – online meditations at South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

‘Free your Mind, Open your Heart, Live in Harmony’

An opportunity to take time out, unwind and recharge has been taken up at the South West Yorkshire Partnership Trust in the form of weekly online half- hour lunchtime meditation sessions. This is available for staff, service users and volunteers of Trust.

Facilitated by Nirmala Ragbir-Day, the Trust’s Spiritual Care Training Co-ordinator, the online meditation sessions began on 10th September 2020 on Thursdays from 12.30pm to 1.00pm via the MS Teams app. The sessions contribute to the Trust’s commitment to staff wellbeing, never more vital than during the pandemic which for many, and perhaps most, a time of  anxiety, fear and insecurity, accompanied by feelings of loss and loneliness.

During the meditation session, soft calming music is played or an extract on a theme such as peace or love is read out.   The theme for 2020, is ‘Becoming and being a peacemaker’. To promote feelings of benevolence, calm and compassion, participants are encouraged to free their minds, open their hearts and be in harmony with themselves and others

After the sessions people have reported feeling calm, relaxed, refreshed and uplifted.
