Inner Strength for Outer Impact: Supporting Healthcare Professionals Across Wales
In response to growing pressures across the NHS workforce, the Wales team of the Janki Foundation facilitated a series of wellbeing and resilience events for healthcare professionals in West Wales, helping staff reconnect with their inner strengths and sustain compassionate leadership in challenging times.
The journey began on 18 October 2025 with a training event entitled Inner Strength for Outer Impact: Self-Preservation in Our Current NHS, held at the John Burns Foundation in Kidwelly. Organised at the request of members of the Hywel Dda University Health Board, the event brought together senior healthcare professionals, including medical consultants and clinical leads. The sessions explored meditation, thought management, communication skills, and the importance of self-care and self-empowerment.
Dr Kala Mistry and the Wales team facilitated the day, primarily with reflective and interactive activities - and shared practical resources designed to support wellbeing and resilience. Two senior physicians hosted the event, which was enthusiastically received, prompting requests for further sessions across Wales.
Building on this success, the Foundation returned to West Wales in April 2026 to deliver a dedicated wellbeing session for Medical Associate Professionals (MAPs) at the Glangwili Medical Education Centre in Carmarthen. Through presentations, guided meditations, values-based reflections and activities drawn from the Foundation's VIHASA programme, participants were offered a supportive space to reflect on professional challenges and strengthen their sense of purpose.
The session was particularly timely, taking place during a period of uncertainty surrounding MAP governance, which had affected morale across the profession. Attendees openly shared their experiences, and highlighted the practical benefits of the tools and approaches introduced during the afternoon.
In July 2026, the team was invited to contribute to the All Wales MAPs Conference. Delivered online, the session introduced delegates to the Janki Foundation's work, the Global Hospital and Research Centre in Mount Abu, the VIHASA programme, and the Happidote wellbeing platform. Links to resources were subsequently circulated to attendees by the conference organiser.
