Janki Foundation Community Event 19th October 2024

Flourish and Live Mindfully

17 people from healthcare and related professions attended the Janki Foundation Community meeting Flourish and Live Mindfully on October the 19th at Global Cooperation House.

The facilitators engaged the participants through meditation, reflection, discussion, listening, creative sharing, appreciation and play.

The group’s introductions were both through a personal sharing and in plenary format, so that the participants could dig deeper on their personal reflections and subsequent sharing in small groups.

A colourful interactive presentation called the ‘self-care check in’ highlighted many different ways in which people can express self-care, covering the domains of physical, emotional, spiritual, social, household, and environment. Some of the ideas were: honouring how I feel, something good for the soul, spending time on a hobby, moving the body, taking time to move or exercise, pampering or treating the self, quality time with someone, cleaning and organising.

The group engaged with attention, shared their thoughts, and contemplated meaningfully on how they take care of themselves which is often neglected by busy health professionals.

After a movement exercise to loosen the joints, a focussed mindful meditation, inclusive discussion, self-reflection, and personal sharing, participants mindfully discussed some of the current challenges and issues they can see in healthcare or their workplaces. There was also room for sharing about new projects, sharing expertise and plans for future events, followed by a delicious vegetarian lunch with continued conversations.

The community meeting was coordinated by Bhavna Mistry and facilitated by Dr Kala Mistry and Nirmala Ragbir-Day.
