A participant’s personal experience at the Janki Foundation Sustenance Retreat ‘Nurturing the Spirit of Service’ - 27-29th June 2025 Lighthouse Retreat Centre, Worthing, UK.

Janki Foundation members and supporters were blessed to be able to spend a few days at The Lighthouse retreat centre, in Worthing, Sussex. The weekend was a refreshing opportunity for this variety of members to meet and reconnect. It consisted of meditation, personal reflection & refocusing commitments in how we each serve. This was utilised in our discussions regarding the various works of the Janki Foundation. The sun, fresh sea air and quiet evenings created an opportunity to rest, converse over meals and there may have also been some singing and dancing.

As you might know, being playful and creative are energetic states that support us in accessing a state of flow and new thinking required to develop new ideas. We were invited to reflect on a time when a spiritual principle clicked for us, some call this an ‘Ah ha’ moment or perhaps a ‘lightbulb moment’. Taking the time to reflect on this gave us the chance to recall that the highest power consistently sends the most pertinent messages to us, persistently getting louder when we haven’t heard it and repeating it when it has slipped from our knowing. Attendees reported a sense of replenishment from the event. The gratitude was palpable; that we know, we get to have faith in something bigger than ourselves. It is a choice that we make to actively return to a spiritual home and be aware that we are part of a much larger whole.

In these challenging times, as the National Health System restructures, it will crumble in many areas before rebuilding. Life is always changing, knowing this enables a perspective that these challenges are solvable. Focusing on a healthy vision of a quality future health system is key to keeping us on track, creating increasingly better services. While faith wavers in others at times, we get to maintain our faith, in whatever form we choose. When we serve from peace, it feels easy and magical. The act of continuing to contribute creates potential for growth, which is imperative for our collective survival. In these challenging times for all of the UK public, we cannot always afford a retreat away from work, but we can always retreat within, in meditation, envisioning and rest.
