Valuing Values
A group of twenty-four people from the Janki Foundation community, who work in healthcare or related sectors got together to explore the topic of “Valuing Values”. Our values play an important role in our life, our work and the priorities we set in our day to day lives. The event was held at the Global Cooperation House in London on 5th April 2025.
The session started with a beautiful and calming meditation on ‘LOVE’. This set the space for an exploration by the group on ‘My Values’. Delving deeper into three individually chosen core values and looking at how they guided decision making.
Values shared by the group

The group went onto enjoy a movement exercise to energise. The next session of exploration was “The Values Gap”, which was a reflective exercise and opened with defining “Moral Distress”.
Original definition by Andrew Jamiton (1984):
“When one knows the right thing to do, but institutional constraints make it nearly impossible to pursue the right course of action”.
The group went onto look deeper and reflect on times when they felt there was a misalignment in their personal and workplace values and looked at what happened and the impact that occurred-:
Examples of misalignments identified and impacts shared by the group -: feeling drained, decreased stability, lessoned the feeling of integrity, created self-doubt, created a toxic environment, led to feelings of overwhelm and world leaders impact.
The group then delved deeper to identify spiritual impact and personal practices that helped them deal with the misalignment and the following list was created -:
- Consistent effort
- Self-compassion
- Reflecting on my Truth
- Impact of personal values
- Connection to Divine
- Managing myself, thoughts and feelings
- Repetition
- Fortune of being able to serve
- Circles of influence
- Exercise choice
- Empowerment
- Reconnecting to Peace
- Self-growth
- Feeling of ‘I will be ok’
- Increased resilience
- Soul work
The powerful, inspiring and impactful session concluded with a beautiful meditation.
There was a renewed ownership of all the personal practices that matter in continuing to close our values gap.
