Shining Light on Death is concerned with the spiritual aspects of care for those nearing the end of their life – the role of acceptance, kindness, humility and compassion as well as consideration and respect for holding that ‘sacred space’ when in the presence of someone who is dying.

Following on from the recent successful Shining light on Death event of July 2018, you are invited to an evening of deeper conversations exploring these spiritual aspects of end of life care.

Speakers

Dr Sue Morrison is a retired GP and medical educator, now working as a coach, trainer and supervisor. She has a particular interest in thinking about mortality and loss. Through CoachDoc, she runs workshops which aim to provide a structured approach to conversations around loss and end of life issues, using coaching skills. She is keen to help generate a skill set to promote confidence and increased resilience in this area.

Bridget Haley has been a nurse and longtime caregiver. She began the Sacred Care Project in 2015 in response to the fear and unpreparedness she witnessed many times when caring for the dying and their families. She feels that with the right guidance and support we can be part of the very natural holistic process in a helpful, healing and sacred way.

Suja Chandran is a registered social worker, who works with children with chronic and life limiting illness and with vulnerable families. She is a social work educator and has a continued interest in addressing the impact and burden of treatment within families. She is involved in projects and training to improve psychosocial care in hospitals.

Response by Maureen Goodman, who is the Programme Director for the Brahma Kumaris UK and the Brahma Kumaris representative at the United Nations, Vienna. As well as her international work in inter-religious dialogue she has worked with a variety of community groups, developing the University’s outreach work in prisons, healthcare, education, youth and women’s issues and interfaith dialogue in the UK.
