This headline, on a Huffington Post article by Dr Deepak Chopra and Professor Rudolph Tanzi, signals an evergrowing challenge to the validity of the materialistic view of ourselves and the world that has governed our lives for so long. In this year’s Lecture, Neville Hodgkinson will review science that portrays us as conscious agents who shape material reality – including our brains – rather than material beings who happen to have developed consciousness. A scientific revolution is in the offing, pointing to a post-materialist understanding capable of liberating human hearts and minds from the prison of our former ways of thinking. The old belief system separated us from our higher nature, inducing fear and robbing our lives of meaning. The new understanding points to an almost limitless creative capacity within us – providing we free the heart from past hurts, and stay absorbed in spiritual love.

“God, the Father, is in my heart. I allow nothing else in. Do not waste time. Make up your mind that this is what you want, and you can do the same.”

– Dadi Janki, President of The Janki Foundation

Speaker: Neville Hodgkinson worked for many years as science and medical correspondent of national newspapers in the UK, including the Daily Mail and Sunday Times. He took up the practice of Raja Yoga in 1981 and now lives and works at the Global Retreat Centre, Oxford. He is the author of several books of which the latest, I Know How To Live, I Know How To Die – The Teachings of Dadi Janki, includes an introduction summarising the frontier science that illuminates spiritual understanding and practice.

Chair: Dr Sarah Eagger is a consultant psychiatrist in London. Sarah is on the executive committee of the Spirituality Special Interest Group of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She is also a trustee and past chair of the National Forum for Spirituality and Mental Health. She was the coordinating editor of “Values in healthcare: a spiritual approach” published by the Janki Foundation.
